How to Install the Exhaust Valve Bridge (082V04120-0024) – Real Workshop Tips
Replacing a valve bridge isn’t hard, but doing it wrong can cause big problems. Here’s how we do it right:
1. Remove the rocker assembly first. Take off the rocker shaft, pushrods, and caps. Label everything — mixing up intake and exhaust rockers is easier than you think.
2. Take out the old bridge. Unscrew the center M12 bolt. Lift it straight out. Check for cracks, especially near the base or bolt hole.
3. Inspect the valve stems. Make sure both exhaust valves move freely and aren’t bent. Any binding means replace the guides.
4. Clean the seat area. Wipe away carbon buildup from the cylinder head where the bridge sits. Use a small wire brush if needed.
5. Drop in the new bridge. Slide it over both valve stems, making sure it seats flat. Don’t force it — if it doesn’t go smoothly, something’s off.
6. Install the center bolt. Hand-start the M12 bolt to avoid cross-threading. Then tighten gradually.
7. Torque to spec: 45–50 Nm. Use a calibrated wrench. Over-tightening cracks the bridge; under-tightening lets it rattle loose.
8. Check movement. Press down on the top — should be zero play. Rock it side to side — no wobble allowed.
9. Reinstall rocker arm. Make sure the tip centers perfectly on the bridge pad. Misalignment causes rapid wear.
10. Run and listen. Start the engine and let it idle. Listen closely — any ticking or tapping means something’s not seated right.
