How to Replace the Inlet Valve (082V04101-0536) – Practical Tips

Replacing a single inlet valve isn’t something you do every day — but when it’s burnt or leaking, there’s no way around it. Here’s how we do it right, based on real workshop experience:

1.  Remove the cylinder head. You can’t access the valves without taking the head off. Drain coolant first, then follow proper bolt loosening sequence.

2.  Disassemble the valve train. Take out the rocker arms, pushrods, and spring caps. Use a valve spring compressor to release pressure safely.

3.  Extract old valve. Once the retainers are out, pull the old valve straight out. Check for scoring on the stem — that means the guide is worn.

4.  Inspect the guide. Measure clearance with a bore gauge. More than 0.10 mm? Consider replacing or reaming the guide.

5.  Install new valve. Slide the 082V04101-0536 in gently. Don’t force it. Make sure the tip is clean and flat before installing the spring.

6.  Re-seat the spring and lock. Place the outer spring, inner spring (if applicable), and retainer. Compress and insert the split locks carefully — they love to pop out.

7.  Grind the seat if needed. For best seal, have the seat lapped or professionally ground, especially if it’s an older head.

8.  Check stem protrusion. After assembly, measure how far the stem sticks out — should match other valves within 0.3 mm.

9.  Lubricate before reassembly. Apply a thin layer of molybdenum disulfide paste to the stem — prevents dry start-up wear.

10.  Break-in matters. After reinstallation, run the engine at idle for 15 minutes. Avoid high RPM for the first 500 km.
